  • Sustainability has evolved significantly, and so has the language around it—often in confusing ways.

As a relatively new yet rapidly developing field, it's full of nuanced scientific terms from both the environmental and social sciences. The challenge is that many internal teams—whether communications, legal, or even auditors—often don’t have the technical background to fully grasp the distinctions.

For example, “carbon emissions,” “greenhouse gas emissions,” and “air emissions” may sound interchangeable, but they refer to very different things. Similarly, “water withdrawal” and “water consumption” are often misunderstood, though they measure fundamentally different impacts. These kinds of misstatements—even if unintentional—can lead to legal or regulatory risks, especially as scrutiny increases.

There’s also reputational risk. Bold claims like “climate change is the greatest risk to humanity” to try and sell your low emissions products can fall flat—or worse, backfire—if your organization hasn’t actually conducted a climate risk assessment. It can make your brand appear performative or disconnected from its own practices.

That’s why it’s critical to have experts review your public-facing communications. Clear, accurate, and credible language not only protects you from risk, it builds trust and reinforces your commitment in a meaningful way.

  • That’s the million-dollar question—and the key lies in knowing who you’re speaking to, what they care about, and how they prefer to receive information.

Your employees, for example, might benefit from interactive training sessions that connect their day-to-day roles to your broader sustainability goals. Regular updates through internal channels like the intranet, newsletters, or even team meetings can help create a shared sense of purpose and make the topic feel real and relevant.

Investors, on the other hand, aren’t looking for day-to-day updates—they want clear, concise data that helps them assess performance and risk. For them, a well-structured annual report and strategic press releases may be more appropriate.

The language and tone should shift depending on the audience. For employees, the goal is engagement and shared momentum. For investors, it’s about demonstrating risk management and growth. For customers, it’s about showing resilience, product integrity, and alignment with their values.

While the core message remains consistent, the framing, format, and frequency of communication should be tailored. Helping your communications team understand these nuances—and stay grounded in accuracy—is critical for making your sustainability story resonate across the board.

  • Here’s the short version:

    • Climate risk assessment, emissions inventories, and climate action planning

    • Design and audit of environmental and health and safety management systems

    • Water and waste management programs

    • Biodiversity and water risk screening and program design

    • Social sustainability topics, including human rights, diversity, human capital management programs, and strategic stakeholder engagement

I guide organizations through the full life cycle of sustainability strategy—from program design to disclosure and reporting—ensuring effective implementation, employee engagement, and clear communication of initiatives.

  • Supporting organizations worldwide, I work across a diverse range of industries, including government, nonprofit, finance, real estate, transportation, energy, and manufacturing.

With a wide range of experience and a commitment to continuous development, I bring adaptability and a flexible mindset—quickly understanding your business to support your ongoing efforts.

I actively engage with industry networks, participate in professional groups, and follow key sustainability publications and news sources to stay ahead.

I also pursue ongoing training and certifications to remain current with the latest developments, best practices, and regulatory changes in the field.

  • As an independent sustainability consultant, I provide a deeply personalized approach, ensuring that every solution is tailored to your organization’s goals and challenges.

I take the time to understand the inner workings of your business and consider the perspectives of all stakeholders involved.
